It's closest to the sun and is the smallest terrestrial planet, being about the same size of Earth's moon.
Across the surface there are many flat plains and craters.
There is virtually no atmosphere.
Due to it's small mass, it has weak gravity.
The temperatures range from -170º C to 430º C.
Venus
Venus
Tis one of the 4 inner planets.
It's density and structure is similar to Earth's.
It takes 7.5 Earth-months to revolve around the sun.
It rotates east to west, opposite to most other planets and moons.
Venus' ate atmosphere is mostly made up of CO2.
Mars
Mars
Tis nicknamed the "Red Planet".
It's atmosphere is more than 95% CO2.
Temperatures on the surface range from -140º C to 20º C.
Many scientists theorize that water flowed on Mars' surface in the distant past.
Mars is volcanic, in that there are regions with giant volcanoes, though none of them are active anymore.
Olympus Mons is the largest volcano is the solar system, covering a region of Mars as large as the state of Missouri, and is neatly 3 times as tall as Mount Everest.
It has 2 small moons.
Jupiter
Jupiter
Tis one of the outer planets.
Tis the largest and most massive planet, with a mass that's 2.5 times that of all the other planets in our solar system combined.
On the surface of some region of Jupiter, there is the Great Red Spot, which is a giant storm of whirling winds and hurricanes. It is so large in fact that it's larger than the entire planet Earth. Also, because there is no land to weaken those hurricanes, the storm doesn't show any sign of stopping soon.
Scientist believe that Jupiter probably has a dense core of rock, and iron at it's center.
It contains many moons.
Saturn
Saturn
Tis an outer planet.
Tis the second largest planet in our solar system.
Saturn's atmosphere is mainly made up of hydrogen and helium.
The average density is less than that of water's.
One of it's moons, Titan, is larger than the planet Mercury.
Uranus
Tis smaller and colder than both Jupiter and Saturn, but like them, Uranus is an outer planet.
It has a blueish-green color due to the trace of methane gas in the atmosphere.
It has rings around it.
Uranus' axis is about 90º from the vertical, and because of this, it rotates top to bottom instead of left to right or vise versa.
It has at least 25 moons.
Neptune
Tis a cold, blue planet.
Scientists theorize that it's actually shrinking.
Unlike Jupiter, Neptune's storm comes and go, instead of keep going for long periods of time.
